Residents who use the library and do not return materials on time will face higher fines come Aug. 5.
Glendale City Council agreed July 8 to increase several fees, including overdue charges and the fee for damaged audio-visual cases. They also created a new penalty for residentS who reserve books but do not retrieve them from the library.
"We were hoping this would be incentive for people not to keep their books out longer than the three-week period," said Library Director Rodeane Widom. "Because of the budget situation, we have lost money. We won't be able to purchase (new) copies of books."
